It’s one thing to strike against likeness usage. It’s quite another to strike against technology because you fear change. Look if you cant write better than the LLM (which has some terrible writing and will continue to do so for years), maybe you shouldn’t be a writer.

lol it's hard to write good code using LLMs! we're doing that at [https://github.com/sweepai/sweep#getting-started-](https://github.com/sweepai/sweep#getting-started-) though

Do you have any idea how hard it is to be a stand up comedian? There’s a standup sub on here where people post their best jokes with their pic and get ripped apart by Reddit. To stand up, recognize something human in existence and then find a way to amusingly talk about it that makes the audience react is uniquely human. Everyone of those marvel scripts (before the new generation) is full of tigh…

That’s because what we have today isn’t AI - it’s advanced automation at best. ‘Intelligence’ means it can create something of its own accord. All our current ‘AI’ systems do it repurpose existing things into 1 semi coherent thing. It’s like upgrading the tills at a checkout so it knows exactly what your putting on a scale by it’s weight and calling it AI - in reality it’s improved automation…

Businesses need to product goods and services that people want. That’s literally it. If AI can help them do it more efficiently and they choose not to use it, they will be beaten by a company that does it. That’s why these studios are fighting back. They may be replaced by AI power startups in 10 years if they aren’t allowed to use AI. That said there’s plenty of room for agreement about not ste…

The software company had nothing to do with this. That'd be like suing the gun manufacturer when a cop shoots someone's dog. The police are to blame here for using the technology to make an illegal arrest. The tech is fine for identifying potential suspects, but to blame the company when their tech is used out of scope is ridiculous. Additionally, the program almost certainly doesn't "discrimina…

facial recognition software has seen widespread use since around 2015. The technology is very advanced and highly accurate. as far as I know, the police are only allowed to investigate people who are identified using facial recognition software - they are not allowed to arrest them solely based on a facial match. I'm guessing they got a match with this woman, but they leaned on other evidenc…

I honestly hate that they are calling it plagiarism. I, myself, use ChatGPT for writing reports and things professionally. But 99% of the time, what I am providing ChatGPT is a very specific command. Chat normally goes like this: What is the function of <insert item>? Can you explain <insert x properties of item> further? \* go out and do my own research some\* Based on…

As AI gets more specialized in the medical field, I think there's a good chance it will crack things like preventing cancers and help develop an all virus vaccine(which might prevent a number of cancers in and of itself) before any humans do... of course, we'll probably still take the credit for it. Either way, those 2 things alone would help so much in average medical costs. Insurance companies …

It would follow that anything created with Photoshop is not copyrightable. Computer assistance is either allowed or not allowed. The quality of the assistance can't be relevant. A computer is a slave that does the bidding of its operator master. The operator owns the work. Curating art produced by AI but directed by the operator/curator may have 0 mechanical artistic skill, but the concept/d…

Every argument against copyrighting AI art is even more applicable to photography. This decision won't/can't stand legal challenge because it literally undermines hundreds of years of existing copyright law. People are just going to have to accept that AI is a tool, not very different from a Photoshop filter, and the person providing input is the artist

I for one will stop openly proclaiming how bad Republicans are when they stop trying to ban books, protect classism, promote authoritarianism, outlaw personal liberty, imprison groups that vote against them, and so on. It's often very relevant to talk about how bad Republicans are because they have influence in most things worth talking about. You can't even talk about the fucking weather without…

Are you really going to claim that the country providing the vast majority of Ukraine’s support, and the party within said country that wants to reduce support if only they can get more power doesn’t relate to this discussion?

The majority of Republican party supports Ukraine and military help to Ukraine except extreme right wing. The same as the majority of Democrat party except radical left wing. This is completely in harmony with the majority of Americans. In fact Republican congress people repeatedly ask the white house to increase military aid to Ukraine and start using lend lease that the congress approved …

I thought it was a term used by college Marxists to explain to me why socially democratic countries are as much of a failure as right wing pundits say they are, but for different reasons.

He is very impressive so far as a leader. But also driven by eastern european local culture. Ukraine seems pretty westernized but still grounded in local culture. He could someday become the next big tzar guy of the region and launch anti west campaign. I won't be surprised. Also we don't have good leaders in US. Because its a very broken up fragmented country. Edu sys has been gutted for many …

Except if you go to social networks like twitter/X and others. If you are in south america, what you get about the war in Ukraine is being astrosurfing against Zelensky. It was so much that a lot of the left in Chile for example was in the side of "the war is not happening" and the more some of them, like the Communist Party, have done was saying that "war is bad but we agree with the Russian ca…
