facial recognition software has seen widespread use since around 2015. The technology is very advanced and highly accurate. as far as I know, the police are only allowed to investigate people who are identified using facial recognition software - they are not allowed to arrest them solely based on a facial match. I'm guessing they got a match with this woman, but they leaned on other evidence as the reason to arrest her. and ultimately neither the facial match or the preexisting evidence were a legitimate basis
