Isnt an arms race inevitable? A good AI would be just too huge an advantage. Countries already (rightfully) dont trust each other. How would you stop someone from doing research on this anyway? AI is a tool that cant be stopped from becoming a reality.

I think a Google and Ford collaboration will be the one that comes out on top. Google already has a ton of autonomous-car tech, data, and experience. Ford, of course, has all the infrastructure, name brand, and distribution networks ready to churn out cars.

I could see this happening in more like twenty years. Consider how quickly cellphones have progressed - ten years ago, only a handful of people had "touchscreen" smart phones. Now almost everyone has a smart phone as their default. If reliable self-driving cars are passed through and made cheap, I could see them becoming "default" in far less time than 50 years.

This is an rational and reliable immediate reaction. Training a neural network is HARD and takes time. Blocking a keyword so you're not offending people takes 30 seconds.

I don't understand people who hate self driving cars because of stories about one killing someone two towns over a couple of years ago. If only they were driven by Humans, they never have accidents!
