And with that EVERYONE suffers, even the ultra-rich would suffer. Their wealth is currently denominated in a system that relies on active markets, labor, and property rights. In a collapsed system, a billion dollars in a bank account or a deed to a vast estate would become meaningless paper or digital bits if there's no functioning society to enforce those claims, no one to generate energy, no one to fix infrastructure, and no one to provide services (even basic ones like clean water or security beyond their immediate walls). Their "hoard" would literally be worthless in a world of chaos.
