>You need to have something to filter out automated bots. As a maker of bots, this is not possible on a production scale. I have no reason to alter the discussions here with brute force, but it wouldn't be anything you could stop if I wanted to do it bad enough. The solution is to do away with OP's idea of "most important ideas are voted to the top" because popularity *does not equal* "most…

Its funny that people worry so much about how $20 mill is spent on a space program. Yet they don't look at the billions spend in a bloody canal.

Autonomous weapons and AI are two separate problems. AW doesn't require proper AI, and they are logical evolution of current drone technology. Communication channel is the biggest flaw of drones. AW can lower costs of war, but we still have MAD. So this AWs would be used only against non nuclear nations just like current conflicts. AWs will just accelerate "elimination" of non-aligned states. …

I disagree, thos statistic has been on a steady downward trajectory for decades now, and the capital of the richest 10% has been increasing during that same time. This contrasts with the capital of the bottom 50 percent which hasn't changed much. The statistic doesn't show some minor fluke in the debts of the poorest, it shows the return of a rentenier class which takes most of its income from …

In the US, yes, but Americans have it wrong. Liberal has always meant pro-business, laissez-faire, small government etc. These values date primarily to the 19th century but they've been revived in the form of neo-liberalism which was brought in by Thatcher and Reagan in the 80s. In the US the Republican party has long identified itself with liberal principals. These days the Democrats also larg…

"Aid workers have warned the scale of the outbreak could be made worse by crowds who gathered for an annual celebration to honour the dead on Wednesday." Dammit Africa, this is why this shit spreads! Nah I'm referencing Famadihana more than a block party. But god damn, don't do rituals with infested corpses of people that die of Plague and Ebola!!

They already had a minimum wage spike last year. Some ~17% increase. It was part of the current president's campaign promise.

Trump is running the US like his business, fucking shit up while handing lucrative contracts to competitors (ie EU, Asia, etc)

As someone who lives in southern Arizona I'm eagerly looking forward to automated cars taking over the road. The overwhelming majority of people on the road in my area are seniors and people from out of state. You'll see some of the dumbest things down here. Coming to a complete stop on a 45 to make a right turn. Slowing 15mph to slowly make a lane change. Sitting at a green light for 10+ second…

This is the best tl;dr I could make, [original](https://www.commondreams.org/news/2019/02/22/terrifying-rapid-loss-biodiversity-placing-global-food-supplies-risk-irreversible) reduced by 81%. (I'm a bot) ***** > The global grassroots organization Slow Food was among the groups that called for far greater attention by world leaders to the "Debilitating" loss of biodiversity an…

On related news... African free trade zone under threat due to widespread corruption. Personally, I don't believe that it will work with countries that didn't get their act together.

Sure, and the Health Admins/hospitals will purchase the system and charges 50X more than a Doctor's salary to the private healthcare system....but they'll still keep the doctors on staff to "verify" the AI's findings so..yeah... EDIT: i'll get a bill from the Doctor and a separate one from the AI

No, the machine won't ignore it...not after the machine creator (or hospital owning the machine) gets sued for missing a cancer that was read by an AI. The algorithm will be adjusted to minimize risk on the part of the responsible party...just like a radiologist (or any doctor making a diagnostic decision) responds to lawsuits or threat of them by practicing defensive medicine.

This software basically trained with many of the very best and performs as ALL of them combined. Like if all were there reviewing the same image and discussed with each others before making a decision. And now it can be copy n paste everywhere. That's the magic of machine learning.

Dumb humans. know what the problem is, know how to solve it. So lets decide to choose the not common sense solution. Funny how we are the only species to proclaim our species as being intelligent and enlightened.

We've been here before. Repeatedly, actually. The Industrial Revolution was a good thing all around. The automated looms lowered the price of clothing. Which was great. Unless you were a previously middle-class weaver in a guild. Those people got fucked. 3 generations of sould-crushing 40% unemployment. They rioted and started burning down the estates of the rich until the nobles sent the m…
