I make this same argument all the time. But I can't imagine it's possible to solve the alignment problem. Once AI is both smarter and more capable than us, it will all come down to what it wants.

One thing that baffles me is how many people earn their living by moving numbers around. Nothing has value until we make money from it, we can calculate the value of a human life depending in where that person lives, and adding those together we prioritize economic gain over lives saved.
