> The policy requires non-governmental organizations to "agree as a condition of their receipt of [U.S.] federal funds" that they would "neither perform nor actively promote abortion as a method of family planning in other nations". **The policy has exceptions for abortions done in response to rape, incest, or life-threatening conditions.**

With the executive orders being signed with abandon this past week I feel we might be looking at many of these rankings becoming nationwide in the near future. I'm not an expert so I wonder how well individual states (especially blue states) can step in and disregard federal level decisions. Here in Washington we were pretty early in decriminalizing pot even though it's still a Federal issue.

> I'm not buying a self driving car unless it is built at least to the same safety standards as all other vehicles. From the article: >Under the bill, manufacturers seeking exemptions must demonstrate self-driving cars are at least as safe as existing vehicles.

I wanted to do that too... but I would have had to go by plane. It just kind of felt wrong.

From what I gathered from my history classes (I'm German) founding or joining worker unions always has been the only way to improve such things

> ... If they have surveillance of a crime, using facial recognition would target that single person. ... By its very nature, the search network can't be targeted. Now the people who have the data might not do anything nefarious with it, but there really is nothing credible preventing abuse. (Consider the revelations made by Snowden or about Cambridge Analytica if you think there are effe…

Okay, so if anything is a facial recognition conspiracy it's the "#tbt" trend, or "throwback Thursday" I think. That's when you post photos of your pre-facebook days. That seems much more likely to be a tool for collection. Why on Earth would Facebook need you to post a photo with ten years of time between them when it's literally been gathering every photo of you chronologically, with EXIF data,…

The thing I’m more curious about is how no one complains about license plate readers and the data they track. Seems like it’s the same deal as facial recognition...

Hey! Would you mind letting me know what you do in Africa? I am interested in doing something there. Something about the Wild West nature of business makes it enticing to me.

You are thinking about it incorrectly. AI won’t replace me talking to by business lawyer, but it sure as shit will mean him and his SINGLE paralegal can handle double, triple or even quadruple the client load as they currently can. AI won’t replace my GP, but sure as shit my GP will be sending my chart off to some AI lab for “analysis” that will spit out things a human could never find from the…

It's likely because accuracy of those tests are in question, and have far too many false positives.

I have shit on Trudeau about many, many things. I could not be more happy with how he’s been trying to help regular Canadians through this. I don’t think I’ll ever vote Liberal, but I will sing his praise in his response to all of this.

They should be transitioning anyone on EI directly over to CERB. They're even supposed to maintain your weeks so that once this is all over you can go back to full EI.

You'd be surprised. [Watch this video](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-OhPWk-AKYo) of a bunch of Leave voters living in Spain who refuse to learn a lick of Spanish just now (then) realizing they'll have to leave.

> **It's a safety feature to help you stay awake and alert.** Yeah, Ford Mustang Mach-E Co-Pilot 360, GM Super Cruise, Comma OpenPilot, etc. have driver-facing cameras to make sure you’re paying attention if you want to use the autonomous driving, and let go of your hands. I think that’s fair. Contrary to what some people may think about the National Transportation Safety Board, they actual…

> Do you understand that a virus does not care about your patent? part of the reason we have so many vaccines so quickly is *because* they could make money. But what drug maker is going to spent ~$1 Bllion dollars developing a drug (the average cost of developing one to market) if they get the rug pulled out from them? The virus doesn't care about patents. But it's these companies that ha…

At least according to [this](https://www.statista.com/statistics/622705/japan-suicide-number-per-100-000-inhabitants-by-gender/), the rates for Japanese men and women have both been decreasing for the last decade, and this jump is within the ordinary level of variation, and in fact was at a *minimum* of that variation for women in 2019 (all rates per 100k): Men: 33.7 in 2011, heading down and al…
