I recently got an ad for an app that was like “make out with your crush!” Where you’re supposed to upload images and it makes AI video of you making out with that person. Not sure why that’s legal but it feels creepy as hell to me. It’s wild that someone out there woke up and spent all their time programming that and at no point had second thoughts? Why do people in this sub hardly ever account for the fact that AI will… improve? The problem is how much it’s capable of doing in just the time it’s been around. The biggest shortfall of ChatGPT in my experience is its memory. If it knows the full context of a situation it tends to do quite well. When we can upload entire codebases it’s not going to be a joke.

I shared the same thought. It’s somewhat comforting that the pace of change has slowed down. While the tools are useful, they don’t entirely replace all coding jobs (except for junior roles). Another AI winter would mean we retain our jobs for a longer period, and we’d also experience increased software productivity, which is a mutually beneficial outcome.
