Omg this. Boss just got married at 50. Still working 9 to 9. It has become obvious that the reason he hemorhages workers is that he's a terrible leade

Can you be more specific? Your link says that a majority of their electricity generation is from hydro or geothermal (as of several years ago). I don't know if they're on track for their 2020 goal or not, and some of the data on that webpage seems a few years outdated, but it's not like they're starting from only a small amount of renewables.

That's... Sort of true. But you need a shitload of concrete to build one of the plants, and producing concrete is *not* green. I would prefer we build more nuclear plants, but it's important to know what the actual cost is.

Automation may not replace but will augment and empower those professionals making one able to do the work of many and with more accuracy.

One humungous point here is people's mental health, which is as imperative as physical wellbeing. By shutting society down completely and confining people into their homes for up to a month, any government would place the mental health of its citizens at risk. This could result in a far more damaging, long-term impact to society on all sorts of levels, including anti-social behaviour, law break…

Same. My Korean husband and I are seriously considering it if Trump is reelected. I've been learning Korean for several years now anyway and am a certified SAT English teacher, so I'd find a job quick. We're also pregnant with our first, so it's actually a serious conversation we've had on and off. There are definite downsides to living in Korea, esp how demanding the education system is there, …

they are, but you can't help but wonder. It is pretty baseless but given everything we've seen across the world, is it really hard to imagine that clear digital recording of a person's face paired with digital purchase receipts could be sold to the highest bidder? edit: a lot of people took issue with what I said, which makes sense. To respond to a few things: for one, I don't really believe th…

Probably going to be the poles [melting faster than expected](https://www.nationalgeographic.com/environment/2019/01/greeland-ice-melting-four-times-faster-than-thought-raising-sea-level/) and lots of prime real estate becoming literally underwater in about 10 years.

30 1/2 here. I feel you. Just when I felt like I was starting to get a grip on my life, this shit made my job completely evaporate. I'm lucky to have unemployment (for the moment) and relatively cheap cost of living, but holy shit, I don't know if I'm up to just throwing away the last 13 years of my life building a successful career that isn't coming back any time soon. Hang in there, fellow mill…

The problem is so much worse and complicated than 99% of people realize. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ranbaxy_Laboratories see controversies https://www.amazon.com/Bottle-Lies-Inside-Story-Generic/dp/0062338781/ref=nodl_ We should all have major trust issues when it comes to people who hawk cheap medicines.

That's true. There are many theories as to why that is. One of them is that women are more likely to get lasting help on their first try. Another one is that it is a call for help.

I’m no expert in Japanese culture, but isn’t this due to the fact that their culture is more social outside the house than the west? Their homes are a lot smaller and instead of inviting guests over, many just meet at a local restaurant to hang out. Their living spaces aren’t really meant to be places to stay for long periods of time.

Of course it is higher given they survive and can keep trying. It is like people who get a job put in less job applications than people don't don't get a job.

That’s with internet infrastructure & telecommunications, Africa can develop it relatively quickly because they were able to afford it when landlines became obsolete. This also helps that cell phones became relatively cheap to use, along with some smartphones. However, energy infrastructure is an entirely different thing, and most African nations are still majorly dependent on fossil fuels (…

You're right. We should be skeptical of Chinese state media reporting, of course. But that doesn't mean that any non-Chinese source that presents an alternate viewpoint is implicitly trustworthy. Japan Forward is the English language media arm of the ultra-conservative Sankei Shimbun paper that also spreads misinformation and historical revisionism regarding Japan's own war crimes, including [Na…

What's more likely, that these companies are intentionally designing biased algorithms or that the data sets that are used are biased because they reflect real world which is, wait for it, biased?

They skipped “Nu” for obvious reasons as it’s difficult to say Nu variant without thinking “New”, and then “Xi” because of that fat fucking asshole in China, leading us to Omicron. Makes sense.
