There are [some people ](https://www.nytimes.com/2020/07/16/arts/music/blind-auditions-orchestras-race.html) who believe that ending the current system of blind auditions is now necessary to promote more racial diversity.

It is beneficial to separate ideas of what is from what should be. I’d agree with the author of the article that what *is* is that people assign moral worth according to positive personal relationships with others - people, AI, even inanimate objects like a favorite sweater. The trouble is that this is so subjective - what has moral worth to me may not to someone else, which makes it hard to fo…

A needlessly incendiary title. Like some experts say IN THE ARTICLE it is imaginable that vaccine safety reputation is a long term issue, letting people sidestep patents and also force transferring technology won’t increase production capacity in the short term. But you all hate Developed countries, pharma, and evil US so carry on. AZ is also selling to developing countries at no profit. They jus…

If I could have called the IT cell over to this thread I would've. The miseducation and thin skin of Americans are insane.

Yeah - honestly this is what automation was **supposed** to do. Let the value be generated by robots while we all get 4 hour work weeks. Instead, the generated value just concentrates in fewer and fewer peoples pockets.

Yup. All this does is the sharpen the threat level that China is feeling on their local tech industry. China is not Iran or even Russia that do not have enough critical mass to build their own high tech industry. Semiconductors and AI have always been a national priority for China, now it has become a national security problem. I expect that China's next 5 year plan is going to feature their ow…

Instagram is already melting down due to the flood of AI art and deepfakes. We're really just seeing the tip of the iceberg at this point. We're entering a very scary time as awareness is at its lowest and the tools have just crossed the creepy line and are accelerating.

Definitely, dude was using discord bots to make this and quality control the illustrations. That's the wrong way of doing it because the artistic style will be all over the place. The real way would be to train a model of the artistic style you want and then quality control your prompts with that. Unfortunately Midjourney is not open source so I dont think you can do that.

This is the most compelling answer and no one really gives it much thought. I have lost entire afternoons thinking about how sex robots are going to change society. I refer to it is the most disrupting technology that will come out of the next decade. People will be able to buy robots that look however they want and act however they want. And they'll be able to buy multiple. So much of what we …

>They'll sell exclusively to each other And how is that going to help them survive, exactly? It's not just the middle and lower class at risk from automation. Businesses who rely on customers are in big trouble. If you're a business owner and your customer base suddenly collapses, selling to your other rich friends isn't going to help.

The subject is about a rampant belief that chatgpt knows things. Don't take what it says as truth.

The big N threads seem to be less popular since the layoffs, maybe we can replace once of them with a weekly AI doom thread. And then make a chat bot to auto respond to comments in that thread of course.

> In the US, probably not. If they processed any biometric data (such as someone's face) from anyone from Illinois or produced in Illinois without an explicit contract allowing them to do so (no, EULAs are not enough; it needs to be a separate biometrics processing contract) then they're going to be in for a world of hurt. They won't even get the benefit of "but we were providing a useful ser…

That requires getting access to GPT4 api, which is not guaranteed and many of us have been waiting for quite a while, and who’s to say they won’t “neuter” it as well

This. Basically 90+ % of work in most industries is just regurgitating what has been done previously which LLMs are fantastic at LLMs aren’t going to have a out of the blue sky new idea but they are far better than humans at knowing all the prior work and synthesis of it to create appropriate answers. Do you think most lawyers, doctors, accountants, call center reps etc are making up new thin…

More like worrying. We're probably not that far away from people proudly fighting for "AI rights" because they're too dumb to realize that the computer is, in fact, a machine and they won't let something as simple as mere reality distract them from being on "the right side of history" or some shit.

Yeah they're just trying to avoid the situation altogether, they want to keep being friends with Russia while still being obligated to arrest him if he took one step into the country.

simple solution is ukraine sneaks a few guys into south africa ahead of the summit with manpads. then an escape route. problem solved. Putin is a legit military target. Russians tried to kill Zelensky.

It’s not possible with current tech and won’t be viable in the sense they’re talking about for a long time. And if it were that easy already, Hollywood would already be doing it. But I would really like to see the government get involved here. Our likenesses, for commercial purposes and otherwise, deserve protection. EDIT: Since I'm getting tired of this exact same response, no, the technology t…
