I think all companies would benefit from letting a robot get sued instead of them.

Hey, it's better than nothing. It's still an attempt to better the lives of not our immediate selves but our descendents.

I bought some facemasks, latex gloves and thermometer on Amazon once. Now it's convinced I'm a doctor, and every month or so their algorithm switches up trying to guess what kind of doctor I am. It's been the longest running game of 20 questions ever, only instead of questions I get weirdly inter-related medical equipment suggestions.

It's essentially "pay me money to fly across the globe in my jet to give speeches at high class functions." These celebrities are simply talkers. They will not take serious action because they are fully aware that to combat climate change would be an attack on their parasitic lifestyles.

Okay but for real, there's no good way to obscure yourself from facial recognition and the like without being super obvious to humans.

You are all so selective in your outrage. As we speak a US backed dictator in Haiti is facing a real revolution. No media coverage, no likes on this page. What they have suffered is a million times worse than Hong Kong yet no attention whatsoever. Saudi has killed directly or indirectly over 80000 Yemini civilians, Saudi is a dictatorship backed by the US, but no its Hong Kong that gets the atte…

The biggest problem with a US carbon tax, is that it will only work if everyone **believes** it will be permanent. Only then will people and corporations make all the necessary long-term investments in low-carbon technologies. Unfortunately, the track record of recent US politics (e.g. Republicans gutting Obamacare as soon as they got the chance) doesn't inspire much confidence.

I’ve had that thought too. Especially when coal was the talk of the town. Like yeah let the coal industry in the US die, you can’t protect tens of thousands of jobs that are outdated simply for fear of having people lose their jobs. Times change and so does the economy. But we’re talking about tens of millions of jobs. That’s too big of a tide.

You think if we automate more people would have more time? Hell no, if we can automate something we drop prices for the customer to get everyone to buy from us while firing the manual workers and increase profits

Unfortunately, what's the answer to that going to be? Probably autonomous systems that can act in self-defense and continue to carry out the mission on its own without further input from C&C. Ideally not to the sci-fi level where the creator race is extinct, but who knows?

We know the mechanics of how we built it. That is not the same as knowing why it is able to do XYZ thing we have just recently discovered it can do. Yes, the mechanics are complex and not widely understood, but so are chip fabs; the difference is that new chips are not regularly outputting novel new abilities as we make them larger and more powerful. When we do find something unexpected in a new …

I had to get off the code learning subs because I just couldn't have another argument with someone about how ChatGPT writes perfect and capable code. I mean I like it better than trying to get an answer off Stack Exchange but I've seen it spit out too much goofy shit to think of it as anything more than a handy tool to use.

Imagine being able to simply tell ChatGPT to hack a nuclear weapon site and launch them into a country you hate lmao

Betamax was the better tape format: smaller, higher quality video, and binds less in machines. But Sony owned Betamax, and they refused to sell to porn companies for tapes. VHS had no such qualms, and took the market. Sony learned their lesson with Blue-Ray, and beat out HD. Right now ChatGPT has a bit of a monopoly, so they can limit their responses due to ethical guidelines. As soon as a decen…

On one hand I deeply admire the EUs commitment to privacy and protecting their people, but on the other hand I see this as yet another technology that will catapult countries like US and China even further ahead of Europe in terms of relative productivity and power if the EU wastes time wringing their hands and delaying the inevitable. I'm not a fan of AI for many reasons, but the mindset of most…

Dude thank you so much for compiling these links every week I barely even have time to go through your full lists but you're freeing me from having to do this so I can actually work on specific projects that correlate to the stuff you're linking. Have some fundamentally insane AI agent Persona work I've done I don't see anyone else who has done my work at all which is completely defeated the I a…

I've had a lot of success getting past that whenever it triggered accidentally. Just ask it why it refused to generate an answer, clear the misunderstanding and move on. The AI usually apologizes and goes ahead with the prompt.

I just tried that. Here is the response. >I'm sorry, as an AI language model, I cannot provide legal advice or draft legal pleadings. The drafting of a pleading requires knowledge of the specific facts of a case and a deep understanding of the applicable laws in the relevant jurisdiction. > >I would advise you to seek the assistance of a licensed attorney who can help you evaluate …

i just hope it leads to more innovation and not just loss of jobs.. When i was a kid and pictured AI, i thought of a utopia of super fast human progress, not people being made useless by software. It will become a big problem for me if programming becomes automated.. i'll have to see if there's ways i can branch out possibly in worst case scenario
