>AI weapons. What can go wrong?
Read the article. It talks about AUTONOMOUS SYSTEMS only. They do not oppose other AI weapons, in fact they support it.
Autonomous means that it can operate and kill targets without human intervention.
I had some guy argue with me that it did not matter that we were destroying the earth because it's all part of God's plan. I should have asked him if that meant free will was a myth since it's all part of that same plan. He was a baby boomer who could care less about the fact that we are destroying our eco system for cheap gas and plastic crap.
I feel like there's this unspoken assumption around here that AI will fix that too. Despite no supporting evidence.
It should be obvious that a system not designed primarily to benefit the average joe is not going to support an entire population within a capitalist economy.
Is everyone who gets laid off going to get their own personal robot that panhandles in the street while they stay home a…
I've been reading a book called The Presidents Club about the partnerships and relationships between Presidents since Hoover, which was a tradition started almost single-handedly by Truman.
It covers how even then the GOP had a schism between the globalist leadership and the reactionary conspiratard wing, led by Joseph McCarthy. Eisenhower was the most respected man in America for a few decades…
Admittedly not familiar with the specific example, but yes this is possible with input bias. The programmers feed a bunch of data into the program for analysis, but its unrealistic to feed absolutely everything in. So there's a few potential sources of bias:
1. Data fed in includes unrepresentative sample of crimes.
2. African Americans are historically more likely to receive lengthier sent…
Which is interesting, because that's the main issue with AI. How could they not account for it?

Hahaha so we will have to negotiate a trade deal with a united Africa. Holy fuck, they are going to enjoy themselves in those negotiations.
Just want to add/point out that all of this is kind of bull shit because the police just farm out the facial recognition stuff to private 3rd parties who cannot be controlled by the city anyway.
It's Uber, they're playing hard catchup and cutting corners in the process. [This is the same company that got caught stealing Waymo \(Google\) technology](https://www.wired.com/story/uber-waymo-lawsuit-settlement/).
I'm not super educated on the topic, but I thought there was more to immunity than just antibodies? I thought it was more important to have a t cell response. Sorry if I have no idea what I'm talking about lol
Inactivated virus vaccine ~~, Sputnik-style,~~ is a proven technology and many developing countries could produce it reliably. MRNA vaccines are too new, and considering you're basically creating a custom infectious agent, I'd understand if the tech is considered sensible.
Well, also MRNA is where modern medicine will go and develop cures not possible today, there's a lot of money in its future,…
I’ve also heard that black women have an *extremely* hard time having their medical issues taken seriously, particularly when it comes to birth issues. This is backed up by the insane discrepancy in statistics around who is most likely to die during childbirth... why the fuck this is an issue completely blows my mind. Then again, I currently work in a vaguely medical field and half of the people …
A lot of the IUDs put in in China are not meant to be removed, ever. They don't even have strings. I've seen some case studies out of Canada saying that doctors there have had to remove them under general anesthesia so if you don't have access to that then you can't exactly just pull it out on your own and then conceive again.
Had high hopes for Bing Chat but its been utterly useless to me the few times I've used it seriously.
ChatGPT, even with it outdated data set was way more through, picked up the nuances that I wanted and wrote a long response so even if it was off, there was still enough info for me to work off/ask for more info.
Plus, it has dark mode, so easier on the eyes.
Kashmir Hill of NYT on twitter was walking around NYC finding stores with facial recognition notices posted in their window, and soliciting others to find them as well.
Fuck facial recognition
I really like the phrasing of the last part of your comment, however I think the difference in this case with AI is that it will disrupt the job market and economy exponentially more than the trickling out of the internet did. We as a society are not prepared for such job displacement/technological advancements happening so quickly without regulation in place. Just my thoughts, happy to hear addi…
I don’t see how. Not being allowed to work on a larger model gives open AI half a year of extra head start.
They can use that time to solidify their position as the *only* large AI model while continuing to add integrations with new services.
While they probably did it for security reasons, its doubly good because people just use it completely wrong anyway.
To quote a programmer: before chatgpt it took me 6 hours to code and 2h to debug. Now it takes 2h to code and 24h to debug.
Especially since most people aren't using OpenAI versions trained specifically for the work they are doing.
Never gonna happen lol. Price is way too high even on an international level, let alone for just one country to stand up and do it.
The criminal blacklists he's on are bluster and Putin evidently knows it.
