The problem is that the managers and non-tech workers despise software engineers so much that they hope they can replace them with AI.

"STEEL" is an episode of The Twilight Zone, featuring Lee Marvin and aired in Oct 1963. Set in the near future, its premise is that human professional boxing has been banned and replaced by android boxing. Long story short, Lee Marvin ends up having to box a robot in a professional bout.

17:58 Perfection is boring. Photography already gives us snapshots frozen in time. All AI is going to do is replicate that with a few more bells and whistles. People aren't visually stupid. I can tell when someone is using AI for their work, and I didn't need a degree or any 'speshul skillz'. Shad can argue all he likes, he's outed himself as a lazy artist and an even lazier writer. In art school…

Please don't fall for the hype around LLMs! LLMs don't strategize. There is no self-preservation involved. Its all a mirage and a result of biased training data. Feed a model a good load of training material where self-preservation is in causal relation to described actions. A lot of social interactions evolve around self-preservation. We DO know how LLMs work. What we DONT know is the internal…

I'm sure everyone notices that now youtube will make you watch 2 unskippable ads, before a ten minute video starts, in the middle of the video, and before the video ends, all the time now. And yet more and more creators are saying they're getting less money from youtube, even as youtube takes in more and more money from ad companies, even from nicotine gum ads. It's pretty obvious google in squee…

Even if it is "just" a set of pattern-matching formulas stitched together to simulate reasoning and consciousness, it does not matter as long as it convincingly looks like real reasoning from the outside and outperforms 99% of people. Where people go wrong is comparing AI to top human performers and concluding it is not even close. The reality is that 99% of seats in corporate America are filled …

Shad has a long history with AI. If people dont know, this guy is the brother (if i rembeer correctly) of DrawWithJazza that is now called Jazza. Jazza is an amazing content creator and a really good artist, he had some takes on AI too, but that is not the point. The thing is that Shad perfectly shows the above average "AI art stans" and he has some VERY bad takes. He even tried to compare his …

I am so shocked how many people are so in favor of AI art. Seeing comments like “it’s better than human art” or “just let it happen” like wtf?? I am in disbelief that any HUMAN would be in favor of this. I’m curious to see their reaction when AI takes their jobs and leaves them unemployed, will they be singing the same tune I wonder?

Division in societies is one thing, but the ability for oppressive regimes to further optimize their evil is what worries me more. In Iran it is already mandatory to have cameras installed inside every car and women who let their hair be visible will get fined. Even if they are alone in their own car. Granted this is a simple example and you don't really need AI for this but it does make it more …

Unfortunately, a lot of people don't understand that. I graduated in 2012. I remember telling people I'm an artist and them being excited. But when they'd ask the medium and I said it was digital, they didn't understand what I meant. So when I'd tell them I'd draw on the computer, their face would turn sour and they'd be like, "Oh...so the computer does it for you?" This shit pissed me off …

@tylisirn On average a bus has way (!) more passengers. Even when you account for times with no passengers at all (like driving back to the bus hub when the line stops service or the driver needs a break). Taxis would also try their best to have passengers as much as possible, optimizing routes for that. Both taxis and busses have the advantage of not being parked moving no one the vast majority…

i honestly don't get these controversies about AI art, AI will NEVER replace human artists and steal ur jobs so you guys need to calm down. AI is a tool made with the intention of mixing art styles and turning the intangible things about an artwork, tangible. i dont think most people understand that no human's artstyle was formed in a vaccum, since it will always be inspired by previous art he/…

You're absolutely right about it being crucial to acknowledge the actual origin of the bigotry encoded in AI systems, and to hold the correct (human) people accountable for it. I do want to push back on one small part of your argument and say that it's still not wrong to also call AI itself racist, because racism isn't (just) a feeling, it's actions and outcomes. We should also rightly call the U…

I think single individuals who try to protect this, defend it, blame and harass artists and call themself artist too are even worse than companies. Companies were always bad, but it's kinda natural they try to make the most money humanly possible. But some dudes on the internet defending ai slop have no actual reason to do that, besides feeling special about it. And maybe trying to compensate the…

BTW homosexuality is legal in India vide a Delhi High Court judgment. Social discrimination is all about education and upbringing, it will change gradually. Indian society before British did not shun homosexuality, it were the British who made it illegal by introducing Indian penal code section 377.

honestly, if the wealth wasn't gained by fraudulent means I have nothing against it, world isn't equal and it never was but if the government turns a blind eye to corruption and passes laws meant only to give more money to the rich, that's bull shit

SK was one of the few parts of the "developing world" that was actually developing. I've never liked that term. It's an inaccurate pretense designed to keep people in the dark about the real state of affairs. Most of the world is poor because corporations are leaching wealth out of entire countries. Global capital would love us to believe that the "developing world" is developing.
