There is no such thing as true AI yet. It cannot think for itself and will only do what it's programmed to do. If a robot fell into a deep hole and doesn't have the program installed to tell it how to climb, it simply won't do it, even if it physically has the means to do so. It cannot teach itself, which is the fundamental problem he's talking about.
