Depends on the artists. My wife use to hate the initial set up because she has aphantasia (like myself), and is ADHD, but would love the process once she got the ball rolling. Since she can't visually picture things, when she wanted to paint or draw but still very much has an idea of what she wants to put on the canvas, it would be a trial and error process that would take days and multiple canvases or pieces of paper (sometimes entire sketchpads) being thrown out. It was then usually 50/50 whether she would have the basis for what she wanted and could then carry on to the part she enjoyed, or whether burnout would catch up and her brain focus on something less disheartening. She now uses AI images to at least have a very, very rough idea of what she wants to get out of her work, and then can skip to the part she enjoys. Far more happier now, and I always love the way she smiles when she's enjoying her drawing. Also has moved to digital art, which has saved us hundreds of dollars a month. I personally am just extremely lazy, and have no desire to dedicate the needed years to learning the very, very difficult skills of drawing either physically or digitally for the 50 to 100 busts I need every few weeks for the tabletop games I run. I have the money to be paying people for all these commissions because it's sometimes well over a 1000 busts of characters/monsters a year with the games I run.
