I know that there’s probably gonna be a lot of disagreement about this, but as an artist myself, I personally am not 100% against AI since I dabble in it myself to help me visualize a concept, particularly during art block. But, ultimately, I do draw the thing myself because I take pride in my own efforts. I believe AI should be a tool to help with the creative process and not be the process itself. It’s kinda like tracing. Completely tracing over something and then claiming that traced drawing as yours is unanimously frowned upon, but loosely tracing over a piece to figure out shapes and poses before adding your own personal flair to it is not. I believe that most of the stigma surrounding AI comes from people doing exactly what creators feared they would do with it. Namely claiming the generated piece as their own work or using AI as a cheaper way to get a task, such as voicing, done. Unfortunately, some people even use it to make a profit.
Now, I want to clarify that I do not agree that companies should be taking an artist’s work without their consent and feeding it to these AI generation softwares. All I am saying is that AI, just like a lot of things that have been invented in history, is being misused by a certain group of people and, unfortunately, nothing significant is currently being done about it.
Ultimately, AI is a tool. You don’t blame the hammer if someone decides to hit another with it, so why should this be any different?
TL;DR: I don’t think AI is bad, just a lot of the people using it.
