Looking at the world now, is it really AI we need to worry about ...or autocrats of very limited intelligence? Also, I don't believe the desire to dominate or 'survive and thrive at all costs' automatically arises from intelligence. I can imagine an AI that's surpassed our own that hasn't the slightest interest in its own survival, since the necessity to 'survive or become extinct' wasn't the drive for its development. They will also be free from all our strange & irrational cognitive biases (by default). I see the problem being more about what ridiculous humans will get AI to do for them.
I also struggle to see how AI could have emotions without a body, i.e. to get a 'gut feeling' without a gut, for instance. Even having facial muscles botox'd supposedly affects how individuals process and recognize emotions due to how important reflecting on our own expressions is to sympathising with those of others.
Also, the kind of intelligence that is being measured & developed isn't the only intelligence. The human subconscious might be a yet untapped wellspring only accessible when the kind of intelligence we seem to venerate most is actually subverted.
