Well one year later, I think AI coding agents are now smart clever junior developers who can work well in the direction you instruct them into. They still cannot stand by themselves. You have to review their work. So, you can consider like calculators and Excel sheets to accountants. They make you way more productive as a software engineer than before. This is why an engineer needs to focus on being more competent at software engineering, not just coding. However, they are absolutely getting smarter, and we don’t know where they may go next.
