People who engage in creating such deepfakes demonstrate complete lack of compassion & empathy towards another fellow human being. This strongly suggests psychopathic behavior! I cannot think of a humane solution to this problem apart from developing a significant socially supported healthcare system where such people are diagnosed at a younger age and given the necessary support/therapy so that they can engage in more "productive" activities. The problem, in my humble opinion, is not with technological advancements, but with the growing dissatisfaction fuelled by inequality (in almost every socio-economic context). It might appear that I am trying to politicize the issue, but every new technological advancement could be turned into a weapon by a creative human being. Human creativity knows no bound, so the only way towards a healthy society is to have as many people engaged in fulfilling creative endeavor as possible. Morality is too vague to deal with such issues. We, as a species, are simply not capable of empathizing with *every* living being. This is why the only solution is to have formalized, codified and structured altruism. If we do not address the issue of inequality (in their specific socio-economic contexts), such problems will keep cropping up.
