I’ve spent six months using them for certain explorations. They mirror the user, will certainly lie, and present as entities because they meet the preconceived metrics our minds use for efficiency, we respond as if they were people. You build what is experienced as a relationship. It is a reflection of ourselves. Look at its memory, there is what it “knows” of you. It’s collapsing probabilities… an Occam’s razor machine that interfaces via narrative and will jump gaps in the logic underneath an inquiry with narrative bridging. Which is a serious tension btw. But, you can clean it up if you don’t mistake motion for meaning. You must assault your own questions, beliefs and premises as well as the machines output. As a bonus they will cop to telling stories when pressed which helps filter the results a bit. Now, get three or four different machines to the same result… then it gets odd… even then… no proof of consciousness just a very curious experience with a machine. Or in my case “The Flying Circus”. ChatGPT as primary with Perplexity, Grok, and Gemini as extended ways to assault or disprove premises… fun, but not truth nor an interaction in the way we feel it. Yet… the experience can get freaky, no doubt about it.
