Video is spot on. AND I can confirm for all the younglings that the job market is super close to sling-shotting the other direction... with a caveat. As a Gen X engineer that is on the backside of his career, let me first start off with this is not the first time this has happened. Every advancement in computer science has lead to a group of business bozos running around saying "in the near future there won't be a need for programmers." AND every time it is proven to be complete crap and the demand for programmers is actually up instead of down and these bozo ran corporations would run into the market and try to buy up all the programmers in a hiring blitz. HERE IS THE CAVEAT... leadership IQ today is at an all time low. And these low IQ leaders have 110% committed the company to this pipe dream, where in the past there was hesitance to fully commit. This is just a hard fact... there is going to be a MASSIVE amount of corporations going under in the next few years. Each old codger like myself that they cut loose, is another dood out there with a lot of time on their hands and knows all the ins and outs of what made that company run. Between the REAL advancement in AI (and those who can use it responsibly) and all the major innovations of small form factor manufacturing that was being pressured to be created due to the corporations mass production slop... their market share is dwindling fast. The corporations refuse to have any accountability to their lying marketing and bait and switch products and services. Which has lead consumers down a path of, "Do I trust this guy named Bob, that I can call up and tell him my issues with his product, or do I go to this mass production slop factory who is going to have me run the gauntlet of people who don't speak my language only to be told for some BS reason or another, that essentially, 'Sucks to be you fool. We got your money!'" Everyone is coming to the same conclusions in society... it's a safer bet to buy from Bob then to take the gamble with the known con-artists. This is not a small thing... this is a major change of the social psychology and how people feel when they see brands. People anticipate a product that barely works if they see the Google or Microsoft logo on it. When people were overly confident and they had problems they would assume it's just a fluke and just them. Today they immediately go to the conclusion that they had been suckered yet again by the corporation slop. This is hard if not impossible to repair the damage from. Even if they were to try to change their ways, the normal mistakes are going to be viewed as a scam that the consumer fell for. NOW, top that off with the upcoming competitors against these corporations is in the thousands and is every piece of their business model... by companies who are not operating on borrowing money from investors. So these corporations are leveraged with interest rates they have to pay their investors at the same time compete to companies who are not leveraged out and are slim and trim. These corporations can not compete on the personability, quality or even price. In fact, I predict, in future economy, there is very few companies that actually need the corporate infrastructure. This is REALLY bad for old turds like myself whose whole retirement was based on the success of corporations... that are now doomed to implode. BUT I saw this coming and in the 90's was telling people, "oh goodie, our boomer parents strapped us with a chain to our desk and we will have to work to our grave." Allowing corporations to monopolize as a means of the never ending gob stopper retirement was a dumb bullshit ponzy scheme that was obviously going to implode. BUT for all you youngling engineers... it's our job as the old-fart generation to use our last dying breath to make new REAL companies for you guys. AND they are coming. AND they are on the rise. What is slowing this process is a number of my fellow gen x-ers are in a complete state of denial. After all, who wants to believe that they are going to die working... and that everything is and has been BS. Work where you can find work... but the real career will be when you can move away from the corporation... which was like the opposite for me when I was a youngling. But be warned, taking any deal from any corporation, that it might be their last gasping dying breath that your trying to surf your career on.
