People having this debate on a phone that has an account with a cellphone company. Your phone knows everything about you, including your location down to the metre at all times. Do you think that information is not being shared? Do you think it’s not possible for law enforcement to access that information if they “need” to? The minute sites and services started using SMS verification that requires a working cellphone number was when we should have noticed. This push towards verification is governments and companies trying to find a way to make it seem like *you gave them info they already have*. That way, when they start using it openly no one will question how they got it.
