The US also has a similar program. Rather than be laid off for full pay I get to go into work for the next 8 weeks and pretend like I have work to do.

Massive infrastructure and other investments during a recession is a classic way to boost the economy and recover quickly.

The people in power also cut a lot of funding to the fire safety department.

I don't know a lot about American politics, but I get the general impression that our Liberal Party isn't quite as right wing as your Republican Party, but they are definitely equivalent. The Australian Liberal Party gets its name from economic liberalism, whereas the idea of "liberals", generally speaking, refers to social liberalism. There's no underlying economic principle for it (as far as …

Imagine trusting data from China >”None of the participants had a history of COVID-19” Nice. Using people who’ve never had covid to make a case against herd immunity.

Weird, they'll defend pictures of Mohammed, but cut you down for holding police responsible for their actions? France, you done fucked up.

I agree with you. Loads of people in this subreddit don't understand basic economics. If you tax automation you cause an incentive to not develop it and use it. It goes back to the old pie analogy. (Pie being the economy). Capitalism is all about making the pie bigger. If you make the pie bigger and keep the number of people the same that's a good thing. Automation is one big way of doing this.…

This is absolutely true. I saw a ted talk that showed how the cost of china has similar earnings to what the average american makes and when you move inland that wealth quickly drops off. China is actually two countries. The developed regions on the cost and the poorer and undeveloped inland regions. Both are very different places.

China spent the past decade trying to lift those rural agricultural population out of extreme poverty, by giving them monthly basic income, finding them sustainable jobs and trades, and building roads, schools and housing in remote villages. So no, China doesn't like it this way.

This is the best tl;dr I could make, [original](https://asia.nikkei.com/Politics/International-relations/US-Japan-and-South-Korea-to-discuss-secure-chip-supply-chain) reduced by 79%. (I'm a bot) ***** > TOKYO - U.S. national security adviser Jake Sullivan will include discussion of semiconductor shortages at his meeting with top Japanese and South Korean officials on Friday, a senior U.S. offi…

Yeah, people cheering this one are the same ones who are gonna later complain that facial recognition is flawed when people are wrongfully arrested or even killed by cops.

This reads like it was written by a lobbyist. Yeah, let’s blame/shame the people and not the system that was put in place that all but guarantees the status quo never changes. Give me a break

> We can’t rely on China to be the world’s factory and then lecture them on their emissions being high. We also can't chase polluting industries out of our countries to places with less regulation and dirtier power generation and expect a net pollution decrease.

Yeah, in a lot of places as soon as you mention lawyers, HR isn't allowed to handle it, the problem immediately goes to the legal team. Keep cool about lawyers and spring it on them at the last minute when you have all your ducks in a row and they dont.

Case levels are low because of the lack of testing. Deaths are low because the median age in Africa is under 20. It doesn't mean actual cases in Africa are low. Nothing weird about it.

Idk dude, deepfake porn still looks terrible. I'd really like to see how "life wrecking" these can get.

I'm a content marketer. AI content is a big thing in my industry, largely because generally speaking, it sucks. I can often tell it when I see it lol. Yours does not resemble GPT-3 produced content at all.

“The Microsoft cofounder published a seven-page letter on Tuesday, titled "The Age of AI has Begun," outlining his views on the future of artificial intelligence. He wrote that developing AI is "as fundamental as the creation of the microprocessor, the personal computer, the internet, and the mobile phone."”

I recently had a paper due for the graduate degree I'm working on. I asked ChatGPT to find me some academic journal articles related to a topic I was discussing in my paper, and it appears that all the sources it returned to me were either fake, or no longer in existence or accessible somehow. None of the sources game back in searches of Google Scholar or a general Google search. I asked ChatGPT …
