There’s more harm caused from AI then sharing your boring drama but if you want to be an ai guinea pig go for it

Oh you have no idea how blind some (smart) people are about all of this. They are completely tunnel visioned on the idea that AI will create a utopia where everyone will be happy (a vague, undefined idea) and they see no detail or nuance at all. I have a tech bro friend like that, and you can see a lot of them on youtube.

In the future no one has to work because of AI and robotics. Sadly we're going to be in the transition with no lifeline.

@erickmendoza3669 Nothing, AI is helpful for personal use and in many more cases. Just don't call yourself an "artist" when you literally just wrote a few sentences and got AI to do all the work 😂

Exactly. LLM's don't actually 'understand' what they output. They are essentially just very advanced prediction machines that mimic human language and this is basically what the Chinese room thought experiment shows. It's no wonder that a system trained on the whole entire internet without actually 'understanding' its contents would repeat all of the disgusting anti-Semitic and racist things peop…

Boycotting can be an effective part of the strategy, but will not be sufficient since these companies can rely on investor money until they have an AI that is too good for companies to refuse. Please join PauseAI and ControlAI and help pressure politicians to make laws keeping humans safe from AI!

yeah i wish instead of wasting time and money on on useless unhuman AI they could have done something with artificial intelligence that would help the world not to spy on what the neighboor ate last night

Ai isn't 5 years old. It ranges from automatic doors to llms. So yes it has helped humanity but you didnt notice it because it wasn't easily accessible to the basic user. Now it is with llm, but the thing is that llm is still narrow ai and is not the same ai as say alphafold, which singlehandedly discovered all 200 million protein structures back in 2020, making 30 years of PhD work that discover…

I was in South Korea for 2 weeks... was drunk every night and still was the most sober of anyone I met. :-/

Yes, and there's a major enticement to producing weapons like that. They can react faster, and process information in a more linear fashion than humans. In fact, there are already quite a number of deployed systems with the capability to be turned on to full autonomous, which if done in the wrong place could kill a lot of people. Take accidentally flying a light aircraft towards an AEGIS ship wi…

between 10 and 20 cm actually, which is 4 to 8 inches. It seems silly, but that difference can actually ruin a community. Some communities already reside *below* sea level and are at constant risk of rising sea levels. I can take a wild guess and say it's also partially due to shorelines receding over time, but the issue is also sea levels rising.

Honestly, I'm shocked that Japan and Canada are so low, but didn't the report say that Japan jumped *up* a few spots? Thanks for putting this table together!

I frequent here and there, r/collapse more often (at least it seems so from my post history...on this account ;)) I like this debate. But it really has some flaws. The basic one is: all parts of the debate - categories like energy - are given equal weight. It's even reflected in the way this debate flows, jumping from one topic to another. It's not right. This doesn't give the justice to the t…

The fact that Trump is President does factor into this. Do people forget that when the USA delivered the THAAD system he tried to blackmail Korea for protection money? Then he threatened the free-trade agreement? That's the opposite of reliable. That's the opposite of a steady hand.

Christ it's easily one of the top ten most developed countries on the planet. Arguably top 5. Highest R&D investment per capita in the world, top 5 for scientific literacy, top 3 in education, bloomberg no. 1 in innovation. The OP changed the title for some stupid reason. It says developed in the real title

This is an understandable stance Japan is taking, but really Japan has a lot less to worry about than most other countries. Much of their products have a much greater market penetration in America than their American Counterparts do in Japan, and they are a huge economy to sell to. I think every other country currently has a bilateral trade agreement has with the United States like Chile, Per…

Giving people a false sense of security with these useless laws actually just makes government facial recognition in the city more useful. And it will be done, regardless of what the law says. The real way to solve the issue of no privacy isn't to try and legislate privacy. It's to make counter-measures entirely legal and to give the public full transparency with regards to what data is being co…

Even if we ban facial recognition, it's not really going to stop organizations like the NSA from using, and it damn sure isn't going to stop other countries like China. They don't need Google and Amazon to implement it for them either, China's tech sector is rapidly catching up to Silicon Valley on AI technologies and may even be ahead in some areas
