Or they invested heavily into AI and are making cuts because there have been no returns?
*The same companies that are collectively spending hundreds of billions of dollars a year to build out artificial intelligence infrastructure to meet soaring demand for AI services are seeking efficiencies from AI by slashing headcount.*
...oh yeah, and this little thing....
*They’re also still trying t…
As a new artist trying to make a living out of university, AI art terrifies me for the future of my job security 🥺
Companies always choose the cheaper option.
Fuzzy logic and machine learning make me think of ShortlistIQ. It's like having an AI buddy that just gets how we hire.
The way you illustrate how AI works with the cards is actually really good, and easy to understand. It's easily the simplest way I've heard it described. I'm sick of people describing it like some artificial sentient person on a computer screen like you see in science fiction. It's so, so much cooler than that!
Some years ago, an artist friend asked me to be the writer for her comics. After fully writing a story, she told me she was giving up on the project. I had no money but still wanted to continue so I found another artist friend to replace her but she ended up retracting too. Then it was the start of the AI craze so...
I said f* you AI, I read hundreds of art lessons books and practiced and now ONE…
He’s basically saying, put massive restrictions on other AI companies but not on us because we are good
To add to that excellent question: **Should human preference for anecdotal evidence rather than statistical evidence be built into AI, in hopes that it would mimic human behavior?**
Humans are pretty bad about judging risk, even when the statistics are known. Yet our civil society, our political system, and even our legal system frequently demand judgments contrary to actual risk analysis.

As a Finn, I am happy that you are happy for your neighbours down south. We are all happy.
Если бы человек мог использовать все что создаёт во благо ! Но нет ! Такое чувство что он делает все возможное чтобы стереть СЕБЯ с лица земли !!!
See how calm he is until the robot says " let's deal with humans" 😅😂
The power lies with the rich douchebags running these huge transnational corps... and their wealthy shareholders.
When these people seriously start caring about the environment, things will get done.
I work for a business and our accountant started using AI. ever since then, their emails have become very, very unreadable and full of stuff we did not ask while not answering questions.
I was once an ai 'artist' (mainly bc I didn't have confidence in my own skills + i was younger)
I kept getting frustrated because it didnt ever look how i wanted it to be, i don't really know when or how i broke out of it, but im a normal artist now and whenever i look back i cringe so hard.
Prompt AI: How do we protect humanity against the perils of AI
AI: *deletes self*
I'm a professional software engineer, and I'm still not convinced current LLM-based AI will ever succeed in the way The Powers That Be think it will. It's too limited and is completely unable to reason on its own confidence. It's just a really fancy word generator.
Try telling that to a boomer with more money than I'll ever see in my life though. AI is a massive con and Sam Altman is digging hi…
When you say AI can be "superficially convincing" it is worth bearing in mind that many human beings do not meet that criteria.
Don't forget that every software system has an error rate. When they're boasting that the system automatically forwards photos to the right department or can recognize everyone on a street, some fraction of those will be wrong and need human intervention to clean up. It's not magic, it's just software lacking any ethical limitations.
As you mentioned, the origin of the term "Luddites" was from a movement that specifically fought against the mass firing of human workers from factories in favor of automation -- it wasn't about opposing technology, but opposing the use of technology solely to benefit the rich. So, calling us "Luddites" says more about them than it does about us.
Technically yes. I think it's worked out based on how large a % of the population live below a set level of earning. China has some crazy gaps in wealth with most of the rural population not earning much at all (hence why so many leave to go to the city). So in the west we mostly just see china as this massive factory full of tech jobs or manufacturing but we don't really see much if any of the a…
People are rightly afraid of AI and robotics taking their jobs or shrinking their personal labor market because there is no social safety net for when that happens - Amazon or someone automates you out of a job and you automatically lose your income, soon your healthcare, and next your housing. Without UBI or other method to soften the landing, many people will lash out.
And of course I never …
