You hit the nail squarely on the head. I'm an experienced developer (20+ years) who has been using GitHub Copilot for a few months now, and I love the way it anticipates and suggests what I might want to type next while I'm writing my code. Sometimes it suggests something completely different to what I actually want, sometimes it suggests something which doesn't even compile without errors, but more than half of the time it suggests something which is so close to what I want that it's quicker to press the tab key and then edit the suggested code into what I actually want than to type it myself.
But Copilot is a productivity tool, not a substitute for my years of experience of software development. I still need to understand the code that the tool has suggested and verify that it's fit for purpose, and make it so if it isn't. After all, I'm still responsible for the quality of that code, even if I didn't type it all myself.
