But AI doen't give out a copied image, it creates a new thing, based on what it learned from other people's art. It's not that different than an artist learning from other artists. There is no creativity coming into being from nothing, the problem here is that a machine is doing it, and that it's so much faster than a person. It's of lower quality, but that is only for now. This will change; we are only about 3 years into the tech being widely available.
I agree that this is a subject that will need legislation -- machines may not be allowed to do what people are -- i.e. learning by observing other people's art for free.
I am not advocating for AI art at all, but as an artist myself, I am saying it's a useful tool. For example, I use it for conceptual work. Of course I agree that just writing a prompt and calling the result 'your art' is absurd.
