We dont exterminate ants because we know they have a role in the ecosystem we live in and they are not intelligent to become a threat for us. And AI can see us as a threat because it can be aware of some possiblty that we can be a threat for it. Just like we are aware that AI is a threat for us. And if we are not going to be beneficial for it, than it wouldn't be pointless for it to exterminate us. Also on AI on its way to deal with the questions we have been dealing with, if it doesnt regard us as both dangerous or beneficial for it, it can just leave us alone maybe. Yet by the time the gap between human intelligent and AI's increases, it will just get more complex with the increasing variety of possibilties. And yes, we are inevitably afraid that it will become like us. That is just the nature. I just wanted to point out that i think your analogy is wrong. And even i think its most likely not gonna be like us, that will not dispose us from the p-doom.
