The left is as guilty as the right of being stupid, lazy, natural followers who are looking for a man to follow instead of looking at policy and how things actually work.
Young, working class people with progressive ideals should have been looking at the party platforms of both parties and choosing the party whose platform aligns most with their ideals, first economically, and then socially.
Young, progressive-minded people voting Democrat over the past several decades could have drastically changed things for the better. Sometimes things can actually be pretty straight-forward. And in the case of our politics it has been. Republicans bad for the working class, Democrats a lot better for the working class.
Little by little, as this voting Democrat happened and the Democrats were in power, you could have then looked toward moving from moderate progressive and liberal policies to more advanced progressive and liberal policies.
But lazy, ignorant people were convinced by propaganda to say "both sides are the same", etc. and allow the right-wing republicans, basically operatives of the oligarchy, to keep winning.
I'm not a fan of what Bernie has done in this regard. I think his ego has motivated him to perpetuate this tendency to follow a man, (him), instead of encouraging younger, progressive voters to learn and knowing how their government works.
During Bernie's campaigns, he voiced things that were already the far-left ideals of the Democratic Party, giving the impression to the impressionable and ignorant that he was the only one thinking of these things and wanting to do them.
Had he been elected President, he had absolutely NO way to implement most of what he fed to young liberals as his ideas without a supermajority in Congress, the same problem all other Democrat presidents have had.
In other words, the reason Democrat presidents haven't implemented far left progressive ideals is the way our government works. It doesn't just matter who is in the White House, but also Congress and the Supreme Court, not because they are the same as or similar to Republicans.
Also Democratic presidential candidates don't run on more moderate platforms because they don't want progressive policies, they do so to actually win elections and to actually accomplish something, not just talk about what should be while Republicans run things.
As far as the kind of automation he's talking about, there's actually very little that can be done about it.
The endgame of having Republicans run things is an overall decline in the quality of life and economic freedom of the working class. That's where it all leads. Certain things become things of the past, like living in and owning single-family homes.
The endgame of extensive automation is more extreme. It ultimately means there are fewer working-class people. I don't mean in the sense that they have some other classification. I mean that first they are not able to prosper, and gradually the don't breed other working class people, and ultimately there are fewer people.
This may not be a bad thing overall for the planet, but for the working class people who still exist, to service the robots, to do the jobs robots can't etc., it will be difficult for them not to become enslaved into wage slavery by the oligarchy, especially if the ones lucky enough to have a form of democracy and self-government don't start understanding and intelligently participating in their government.
