I disagree. As humans, to feel empathized with, we only need to believe that the other person cares about and understands our situation. There's no reason an AI couldn't be trained to exhibit empathy, look for understanding in a patient, and good (virtual, for now) bedside manner as well as a nurse or doctor. If a machine can reliably pass itself off as a human, do we really care that it isn't a human in this situation?
