I disagree. LLM "AI" isn't capable of maintaining consistent characterization or "remembering" parts of the narrative that came before, so the more you talk to AI-powered NPCs the more contradicting information you're going to get from them. Until it can do those things, it's going to create a subpar experience compared to a human writing those game interactions.
i think there might be untapped potential in the "surreal horror" sphere, but not in your standard RPG.
