The industrial revolution is the first wave of machine replacing human jobs. 90% of farmers and farming related jobs disappeared. Is it a good thing or bad thing? When 90% of human resources were on farming industry, industrial revolution was the end of the world to most of the people, it should be really bad thing. But anyone today wants to be a manual outdoor farmer like hundred years ago? or anyone today thinks the industrial revolution should never happened? since the industrial revolution not only caused farmers at the time lost their jobs, but also killed the farming industry for good, so that 90% of today's population also lost their "opportunity" to be manual outdoor farmers. AI is the second wave of machine replacing 90% human jobs, we are scared and confused because we are all in the middle of the second end of the world shock. Most of today's jobs suck, future generations will be glad that AI can come to rescue so they do not need to be the same as 90% of their older generations who stuck in those miserable jobs. Most of today's jobs (post industrial revolution) are not real, they are invented luxury artifacts, the only difference between these jobs is the scale of the realness. The obvious example is the professional football player. Their job is 100% fake in terms of human survival that we still call the employees of this job the players. The less obvious examples are everywhere, in the low-end Walmart store, most of the stuffs cost more for their packages than the real thing inside. In a typical middle tier restaurant, the presentation of the food cost 10 times more than the food itself, don't mention high-end consumptions, like thousand-dollars handbags. The key point here is that most of today's jobs are invented just for the sake of having somethings to work on, not for the necessity. The content of realness in the jobs is decreasing as the civilization advances, if our older generations can make bunch of football players the most after-sought high paying professionals, our younger generation, equipped with the experiences from their older generations and much advanced technologies, will invent many many more luxury and addictive jobs we can never imagine today. There will be more workaholic in post AI economy than today. Post AI economy will produce larger wealth gap, but even the poorest person in the post AI economy will not want to work on our today's best jobs, exactly the same as the homeless people on the street today will not go back to preindustrial revolution to work as the best manual outdoor farmer with a good income. The problem is that the old jobs all suck. Similarly, our today's jobs all suck in a post AI economy. Because modern jobs are invented, in post AI economy, there will not be job shortage, in addition, the future jobs are superb beyond our imagination, yet the future generations will still complain like hell, just like us today.
