You can’t just walk in and get hands on experience in healthcare (nursing, physician, dentist, dental hygienist, MRI specialist, radiologist, phlebotomist, nuclear medicine technician, EEG technician, physical therapist, speech therapist, vascular therapist, prosthetist, orthotist, etc). The only healthcare field that I can think of that doesn’t require a degree or certificate is surgical assistant (it is my understanding that they get trained on the job, but how would one get hired for that without knowing someone who can get them in?). Also teachers are required to have a degree, college/university professors are required to have higher educations (at least a Masters and preferably a doctorate). All types of engineers are required to have a degree (no one will just hire someone off the street and train them to design bridges and houses and software). So this narrative that a degree is no longer needed is very premature and misleading. Researchers are required to have a degree or be working towards a degree (preferably in higher education). CEOs in companies are required to have a degree, and many times they require a degree for lower level employees as well. So most fields require a degree, even for entry level jobs. What has changed is that they want people to also magically have experience alongside the degree (even for entry level jobs), and they have opened the door for visa workers to compete against American citizens and legal residents (on their way to citizenship), for higher jobs and lower jobs, for lower pay. AI will also be taking many of the tech jobs, and American companies have also been allowed to offer-shore many jobs.
