Can you say a little more about what you mean when you say that "LLM's can't break free of what they've seen before"? I tutor the LSAT. I can create an original LSAT style prompt and ChatGPT can tell me what the flaw is, how you could strengthen it, how you could weaken it what assumptions are being made, etc. That's not just fancy autocomplete. A year or two ago I had ChatGPT take an LSAT Test (that was released after the cutoff of the training data, so it couldn't just look up the answers). It scored in the 95th percentile. If that's fancy autocomplete, then fancy autocomplete has better reasoning ability than almost all of my college educated students. Maybe it can't "understand," but at some point the imitation becomes so close that it's a distinction without a difference. That's been my experience with it, but there are a lot of very smart, very informed people who disagree. And there are also people who mean something completely different than what I think they are saying. I want to learn and better understand both of those perspectives, so I'm genuinely curious about your thoughts on the subject.
