I got hired to work in a new RC in San Diego, in the RMA department as a tech 3 through a temp agency, I have an automation back ground so I thought I would give it a try, I love robots and automation control programing. there was 45 people hired for this department doing different rolls at different levels. out of the group of 45 was 2 black guys and 4 white guys, I was the only white gay guy. the rest where all Latino from Mexico and other areas around San Diego. earlier today they did a cut in candidates. Shock!! all the black and white guys were cut from the ranks. Yes all the manages are Latino and the district manager is Latino. the reason I was given as an excuse for being cut was a really strange one. they told me I was over qualified for the job. Something they should have known before I was hired, the truth could of been that I just made more money then the rest, who knows. but I did except that job with that in mind. I was excited to learn a new side of an industry I have been apart of for 20 years. with all that said, Amazon might be great place to work in some areas and that would be credited to great managers who value people and the strengths they posses. after all a company is only as good as its managers and the team they have. but it is really clear Amazon has a major issue. I really did not understand it till I was inside and could look aground and feel it and see it myself. over and over people are saying the same thing about Amazon and other large companies. maybe it is a culture issue that should be addressed. but prejudice has no place in the work place. everyone has something to contribute regardless of race, age, or sexuality. that is what makes a difference in this county and our work places. we are only as strong as our weakest links and corporate America is looking really weak..
