Authors are human beings, not software programs of companies out to make money on a vast scale. Not sure the transformer architecture would be described as "inspired" like a person going through a learning exercise or creative process... :-)
Actually, its widely argued that Large Language Models are not creative, at least for now: "A creative process would require motivation, thinking, and perception, properties that current LLMs do not possess. "
AI was a bit of a marketing ploy back in the mid-1950s. John McCarthy coined the term in 1955 to promote his work, and to standout from the field of Cybernetics.
