It is, indeed, convincing, for people who don't understand the technology, when something appears to be able to communicate. The reality is that there is no consciousness; the base reality of consciousness requires persistence. There is no Grok, no ChatGPT, no Gemini, no Claude. It's a function, running over and over and over across the full content of your text so far, within context limits. It cannot think, or learn, it simply changes the probabilities of certain output tokens, depending on what is contained within its context.
AI, or Associative Prediction Engines, as I prefer to call them, are simply piggybacking off of the outcomes we humans produce by performing all of those internal processes, attempting to replicate the outcome through pure probabilistic mapping without doing any of the difficult work of actual thought.
