Absolutely people do not understand the underlying technology and believe these things are alive not life like.
I run into people using it for mental health regularly. And usually gpt asks them to do something horrible and then it kicks them out. Where they say oh, it is just a chat bot.
I have had it say unhinged things. And give terrible advice.
