Is it really? Let's say we have today AI that's at the same level as a human brain. That silicon is not just one wafer, or even one chip. It is an entire datacenter, consuming a LOT of water and electricity, and taking up many square meters of land.
How much do you need to feed a brain in comparison? How much space does it take up? Many humans keep going despite a variety of brain injuries.
If you had to let every human's (all humans at the same time) mental process occur in current datacenters they not be able to handle the load, or be extremely slow.
This is blown out of proportion with the current state of affairs.
