In my opinion the only aspect that avoids this catastrophic scenario is that:
1- AI is not generalized, it's a big pattern recognition tool. It cannot provide true innovation. It is already flawed in its method of learning and reasoning.
2- the fight for the top is still human dependent - which still is subject to human flaws : the top wouldn't stay silent, for some of them at least it would be interesting to have social power from those in need.
But the trend do seems to be accurate
