AI in and of itself doesn't have to "turn against" us for all of this to be disastrous. Many conjure images of robots and computers killing us, enslaving us, turning against us etc. The real effect will be that the entire labor based, economic system will collapse. We all know the powerful interests and corporate rulers that we live under are NEVER going to tame their adaptation of AI. They will replace everyone if it means a handful of people can walk away with more profits. Barring a massive overhaul of our economic system and wage based, labor focused model.....this definitely will be a global disaster. And it won't take long to get to that point. We may be all forced into a more socialism based, UBI system just to keep any kind of economy going...but the planning for that type of massive change should have already been starting and underway long ago. This is all going to be a disaster and ultimately AI itself will not be the end of civilization....it will be the HUMAN element of greed that will, after all. AI will just be the tool that is used to deliver the final nail in the coffin.
