As a disabled artist who has worked (as much as I can) in my field for the last 15 years and have students and interns regularly, AI doesn't really help disabled people, simply because every person needs to learn the basics organically and on their own terms to be efficient and enjoy the process. AI can be useful for a senior artist like me to flesh out a concept and then I have the knowledge and experience to make it something worthwhile. I don't use AI personally for ethical reasons but I can see how it would streamline the creation process and may help a disabled person meet deadline in a work environment that doesn't accommodate them. But AI is doing the entry level job that young artists need to get better and secure a career that pays the bills. Jobs that are usually simpler or easier that a lot disabled people are stuck doing for their whole life if they cannot take on more complex tasks or responsibilities. How is it helping disabled people - or any artist, really- if those jobs are stripped away?! I also agree with everything you said, on the economic side. Disabled are stuck in poverty unless they have a robust support system. Not to mention all mentally disabled people that are genius with their hands and a pencil but would struggle to write prompts that AI models need. How is AI accessible?! But also, there is no joy nor pride in crating AI art. I don't use my soul, nor my two hands, nor my creativity. It's depressing. For help, I would much rather have a society that respect humans's needs so as to not make having a living wage impossible and stop teelling people that making art and having free time is morally wrong for disabled people because we don't work 24/7. We have always been used for ideology wars so I'm not surprised but I wish people would treat us like human beings and get their mind out of the gutter. Disability rights are human rights. Plus disability is one of the only thing everyone will experience if they live long enough for their body to grow old. It should be on everyone's radar.
