I love this. There needs to be more open discourse on this in a safe environment. Your video made me think, or rather think again. This comment will certainly be lost in the sea of comments, but in case it isn't, this is coming from someone who, 20 years ago, used to skip his engineering classes in college to come home and spend hours drawing his favorite video game characters 😄 Here are my two cents: I agree with a lot of the legal and moral allegations levied against AI-generated art, however when people talk about AI content, art or otherwise, they usually use terms like "soulless" or "lacking intent," which, in my opinion, ignore the human in the loop. If AI is a tool and there is a human doing the prompting, can't we at least attribute a little bit of intent and consciousness to the human who sometimes spends hours trying to put together something using AI? I think this point reveals another deeper issue. I believe a lot of the justified anger and discontent against AI output is misdirected. People voicing their criticisms against AI slop, either consciously or subconsciously, are avoiding pointing out the real culprit: the general public. AI, at its core, is a flawed tool, an approximation, a knockoff. It cannot hurt the art community. What can hurt the community however, is the human who cannot understand the value of genuine art and deems a stylized rabbit with flawed buttons as "good art." Ideally, people should know the difference, and if they don't, the art community should strive to educate them. But to point the finger at the knife and not the one stabbing is, in my opinion, a wasted effort, albeit a more politically correct one.
