If it is 100% remote work, it is much more likely to be eliminated, outsourced, or automated. The only value someone can really add these days is the personal relationship factor where a customer, vendor, or other department in your company is glad to take a call from you/ deal with you over anyone else because you know your stuff, do not create conflict, provide solutions, and possibly even have a friendship with the other person. Covid had a terrible effect of killing what real interaction people had left. To get anywhere in your career you need to be noticed by powerful people and it’s not the same on a Teams meeting compared to in the same building.
