Disabled artist here. 14:02 Thank you for standing up for us, Hayley. I find the idea that AI art generation is good for disabled people insulting. My initial thoughts there are that, because I'm disabled, they think I: A) Need a machine to make art for me instead of finding adaptations to allow me to make art. B) Have a right to steal the hard work of others just because I'm not as able-bodied as them. C) Should consider it a privilege that able-bodied people have made something that makes it possible for me to "make art." I've been a digital artist since 2015, built my own computer, work as tech support for a living and still make digital art to this day. I would count myself as someone who loves to see this world progress and what new technology will be made next. AI generated art is not something I feel I can support, especially as someone who has worked so hard to overcome challenges to get my art to its current level. The fact that said AI also uses the existing art of disabled artists as training fodder makes it ten times worse. To make a single piece these days, I need painkillers, compression gloves, wrist supports, blue light filter lenses on my glasses, ring splints and breaks every 15-20 minutes. I then need to relocate my finger joints anytime they pop out despite all the aids I use. I use a very high stabilisation due to how much my hands shake and need to use a screenless tablet most of the time to avoid wrist dislocations. It's a lot of work and very exhausting, but I continue to draw because I love the process of creating something cute. The thought of some entitled AI bro throwing my hard work into something like midjourney is a genuine fear of mine. It's incredibly disrespectful to the artist and all the effort they put in, no matter who the artist is or how disabled or able-bodied they are. Apologies for the long rant, but the issues of AI generated art is something I feel quite strongly about.
