Just like most of paintings are not art, generative AI pictures aren't art. But both can be, if the image creates feelings in the viewer. But who really cares if it is art or not? And until we find out if training AI without license is fair-use or not, we really don't know if it is ethical or not. Copyright is not something inherent but a temporary monopoly power given by the government and as long as people follow the copyright law, it is ethical, even if the authors feel that it isn't. Naturally there wouldn't be any copyright and AI bros would be free to do anything with the media.
