Rather than tax the companies that develop AI, let’s tax the companies that use AI. An “AI tax” that brings the cost of using it to nearly what it would cost to pay a person to do the same job. Then that tax money is given to the people as UBI. The companies that are using AI still save some money, the displaced workers can survive and contribute financially to society, and the American companies that are developing AI aren’t hamstrung. We would need to set up a new government agency dedicated to taxing and auditing these companies, similar to the IRS, to make sure they comply
