I think there is still too much hype regarding the human-like cognitive properties of chatbots and wether, say chatgpt, could be able to think like humans do solely from the text input. First of all, chatbots do not have embodiment, which is the framework for human cognition and linguistic meaning. Without it you can not solely from textual data alone infer what the meaning of a visual object (a photo does not count because it is a two dimensional snapshot of a 3d object that lacks any contact of an embodied agent. Moreover, chatbots cannot see.)and its properties that are based on how we use our bodies to interact with it. All the information regarding the ontological meaning of an object is not fully present in textual or visual data. You need to be a fully alive agent to interact with it in order to fully understand it through thought and ultimately through language. AI can "understand" what something is conceptually on paper yes but to say that it can inherently understand it through some form of "thinking" is an overexaggeration.
