I don't understand what you mean by literacy or by newspapers, I get the tablet case though and think it's probably fair. The problem is your argument is pointless - it IS no different than any other technology before. I don't think there are problems with AI used purely as an instrument, and I think it can create sincere meaning, but I also think it's naïve to disregard the social and economic consequences that will come with technological development. The production process of art will certainly change, and there will absolutely be effects on 'artists', in the same general way that mechanised looms displaced all the people who practiced the previous form of production.
Off the top of my head, generative AI will save immense amounts of labour particularly when making 'simple' art, stuff that's relatively unimportant and where there are lower expectations for its quality or strict requirements. Like background art, icons, simple portraits (some businesses have done that with generation for a while now) and things like that. Especially for corporate or business commissions, it will be significantly more convenient to get those things for generative AI, and so the majority of commissions for that type of art will dry up due to their excessive cost - those who previously performed them would have to move to an art form that remains valued for its human contribution, or otherwise find another profession. Those artists who do move to those other art forms will necessarily have to compete with more artists, bringing prices down and making it unsustainable for many.
To my mind it is genuinely the same situation as the Luddites - hand looms simply became less efficient as they required greater labour, and any talk about the 'human' element of their weaving was obviously disregarded because nobody really cares about whether a human being made their dress or not. I think that will reveal itself to largely be the case in visual art as well - many agents in the market will elect to save massive amounts of time and money by going for AI art for many (perhaps all) purposes, profoundly affecting the profession.
