First of all, AI prompters, who simply get a generated output, are not "artists". They can call themselves Art Directors, because they pick and choose what the artist does, the artist being the AI in this case. Second, what is stealing? Stealing is reproducing somebody else's work, doesn't matter the tools you use. You can use photoshop or paper and pencil to steal somebody's work, not just AI. Generating random images that don't match anything but are just a salad of pictures is not stealing unless the product is a copy of another. When you prompt a specific style and artist, trying to get his style and product, that's stealing, that is if you consider stealing also your hand work made "in the style of". So if *you* do a piece in the style of Ghibli studio, or the AI does that, it's the same thing. What about the fact that datasets stole everybody's work? To me, the answer is simple. The generated output is public domain and copyright free, otherwise the claim that the data was scraped for educational purposes is null and void. Both "sides" should take a deep breath. Ai is here to stay, cope with it. Does that allow you to use the tool for stealing? No, it doesn't, exactly like you couldn't do it regardless the tools before.
